The following is an excerpt from Attorney at Law magazine's Talk of the Town section.

Las Vegas Defense Lawyers (LVDL) is a newly-formed professional organization of civil defense attorneys who provide counsel to civil litigants. Among the organization's goals are: fostering mutual education and the exchange of ideas with fellow counsel in the city of Las Vegas and Clark County, providing balanced defense perspectives in matters of civil defense, promoting cooperation and civility among fellow counsel, improving the public perception of civil defense attorneys through service to the community, and establishing and maintaining standards of professional conduct.

The first board of directors was announced at LVDL's inaugural meeting on November 3, 2011. Officers are: Loren Young, Lincoln, Gustafson & Cercos, president; Michael Nunez, Murchison & Cumming, secretary; Eileen Marks, The Marks Law Group, treasurer. Other members elected to the board to lead various committees and assignments include: David Riddle, David L. Riddle & Associates; Nelson Cohen, Bremer Whyte Brown & O'Meara; Robert Katz, Katz & Associates; Sarah Suter, Ryan Mercaldo & Worthington LLP; Marlys McGrew, Barron & Pruitt, LLP; Shana Weir, Parker Nelson and Associates; Tamer Botros, Yellow Checker Star Transportation Co.; Anne Padgett, McCormick Barstow LLP; Ann Richard, Cooksey, Toolen, Gage, Duffy & Woog; Thomas J. Founding member Thomas J. Lincoln of Lincoln, Gustafson & Cercos, says Las Vegas has needed LVDL for a long time. "LVDL will greatly benefit the public by giving a voice to the defense perspective and helping with laws and in the selection of judges and legislators," says Mr. Lincoln. "There has been a huge response to our call for such an organization and I'm proud to be a part of this new and exciting effort to promote fairness and justice."

All civil defense attorneys within the city of Las Vegas and/or Clark County are encouraged to join and help establish LVDL. Upcoming discussions include: establishing LVDL's organizational structure, developing an online presence via a website and social media, membership requirements and responsibilities and community outreach.
