Jean M. Daly

Jean M. Daly is a Partner in the Los Angeles office of Murchison & Cumming, LLP. She Co-Chairs the firm’s Cyber & Privacy Law practice group and is a member of the Insurance Law practice group. With more than 150 jury and 50 non-jury trials, Ms. Daly has been an accomplished trial attorney for her entire career. Ms. Daly’s practice includes: representing insurers in complex insurance and bad faith litigation, at trial; providing insurers with coverage, underwriting and risk management advice in both domestic and London insurance markets; serving at monitoring counseling; defending professionals(including agents, broker and other non-medical professionals) in professional liability litigation; representing insurers by handling first and third party special investigation defense and first party coverage matters involving large losses. She also represents insurance carriers in affirmative litigation in all phases including trial involving insurance fraud in both federal civil RICO actions and state court Qui Tam actions.

Ms. Daly is a recognized specialist in the field of arson, wildland fires, and fire losses and served as an Asst. District Attorney in both San Francisco and Los Angeles counties, heading up the Arson unit in Los Angeles and San Francisco, before moving to the private sector. As a district attorney, she was trained by the California State Fire Marshal’s office as well as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in the areas of origin and cause of fires, NFPA 921 and 1033, arson for profit, incendiary devices, bombs and explosives. She continues to be an instructor at the California Conference of Arson Investigators in their Expert Witness Course. Also, during her tenure at the district attorney’s office, Ms. Daly received training from the FBI, ATF, SFPD and LAPD in the area of tracking cell phone records and cell tower records as well as money laundering, bank fraud and computer hacking. She is also knowledgeable regarding cyber issues, having received cyber training from the FBI, and is currently working with firm clients on cyber issues, including coverage and consultation pre-breach and post-breach.

Her experience includes all phases of trial before state and federal courts, including representing public and governmental agencies in complex civil rights and class action litigation and claims of professional malpractice against attorneys and accountants.

Ms. Daly currently serves as a board member of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel and previously served on the Los Angeles County Bar Association Judicial Appointment Committee for six years from 2008 through 2014.
