Murchison & Cumming Attorney Participates in "Public Counsel" Program

August 10, 2012

LOS ANGELES--Molly E. Healy, an associate attorney at Murchison & Cumming, is presently offering pro bono legal services through the non-profit law firm "Public Counsel." Ms. Healy, who received the CALI Award for Excellence in Children’s Law and recognition for pro bono volunteerism from her law school, now represents a severely autistic child and his foster parent (his grandmother) as an attorney volunteer. Her work includes evaluating the caregiver benefits owed to the parent by the Department of Children and Family Services, scrutinizing the developmental services the child receives from the Regional Center, and helping the family with complicated adoption paperwork.

"I enjoyed meeting the child and adoptive mother, and learning about the grandmother's story. It was inspiring to see her take on the responsibility of raising a child with a serious developmental disorder," said Ms. Healy. She added that "being law school graduates, we have a specific skill set that can help us serve our communities. It's always rewarding when you can use the power of law to help a child grow."
